Summer 2024! A time for sun, fun, and… journalism? Yes, you heard that right! While most of us were busy perfecting our beach volleyball skills or trying to avoid sunburn, two brave souls from Svitlo School, Alina and Nikita, were off on a quest that would make even Indiana Jones jealous. They ventured all the way to the USA—completely alone! Someone call Hollywood; we’ve got a blockbuster idea reviewing: Home Alone 2.0, but with Ukrainian vibes and a side of pizza debate!

Now, let’s get one thing straight: we’re not talking about a summer camp filled with marshmallows and campfire songs (though that would’ve been delightful). No, Alina and Nikita were off to The New York Times Summer Camp, where the only thing more intense than the journalism was the debate over pineapple on pizza. Spoiler alert: it’s still unresolved, and frankly, we’re not sure we want to know the answer!

So, what did our intrepid travellersdo in the land of skyscrapers and bagels? They dove headfirst into awhirlwind world of news, secrets, and investigative journalism. Picture this: waking up each day surrounded by the buzzing energy of one of the most renowned media outlets in the world. Talk about a glow-up!

One of the highlights of their adventure? Access to the inner sanctum of The New York Times newsroom! That’s right—Alina and Nikita were rubbing elbows with seasoned reporters who’ve covered everything from local scandals to global crises. And let’s not forget the atmosphere charged with debates over Pizza Rights! Alina even declared, “Our mission was not only to master the art of storytelling but also to develop a global movement to finally address this culinary controversy.” Because if you’re not tackling the hard-hitting issues, are you even doing journalism?

Do you want a surprise? Nikita hada chance to master his Law skills, wouldyou believe  it? He was even  in a court area to see how the systemworks!

With their newfound podcasting and political skills, Alina and Nikita aimed to tackle the pressing question: should pineapples ever belong on pizza? This is the kind of investigative reporting that could change the world, folks!

In the end, Svitlo School’s summer adventure was not just about leveling up in writing and analytical skills; it was about seeing the world through a different lens and understanding their roles in shaping it.  Alina and Nikita returned home with stories to tell, skills to share, and perhaps a few new opinions on toppings.
